Harvest Time at Marmalade – Bia Duchais Rolls Into Production

6 Staples | 24 Recipes | 1,000 Years of Culinary History

Bia Duchais our six-part ‘Cookumentary’ rolled into production this summer. The series choosing six of our best-loved staples; Pork, Salmon, the Potato, Grains, Cheese and Honey, will trace how these foods have run the gauntlet for over a thousand years to remain staples in our kitchen cupboard up until this day showing that the very same flavours that sat on the taste buds of our ancestors are still an active, real part of our lives.

Bia Duchais is a Cookumentary; a completely original, visually arresting style of programme combining a primarily actuality documentary approach with the demonstration and explanation elements of cookery programming along with stylish animation to bring our Irish culinary heritage to life on screen.

Beauty and The Beast

Well it’s been a busy few months here at Marmalade HQ so sorry for the long silence but here’s plenty of news to make up for it.

New Offices

First off we’ve moved into new offices, expanding our production and post-production facilities! Were still based on the Griffith College campus so we havent moved far but we have moved to a bigger, brighter and more creative space. Check out some panoramas of the new production studio here or better yet call in for a cuppa and have a look in person.

New Post-Production Facilities

Moving into our new studio has allowed us to expand our post-production facilities. By the end of May we had completed our new editing suite. We’re now handling offline, online and grading of projects from web to 2k resolutions. The new system has been affectionately christened “The Beast” and is all things to all men (and women). At night we have even seen it turn water into wine and then into edited and graded media for output to tape. Already we’ve offlined a number of corporate promo projects for both Marmalade and external clients, we’ve onlined VT insert packages for both the 2011 Griffith College Creative Show and end-of-year Media Show and we’ve graded the drama short “A New Life”.
We told you we were busy! To book in for some post-production TLC or if you’d just like to call in to see our new facilities contact us on post[at]marmaladefilms.ie

Dox and Talks

The development team has been kept busy with long and short form projects over the last few months. The summer has given us the chance to focus again on our short documentary project “Tallymen” shooting for which started during the general election count this past February. Keep an eye on the In Production section for more updates.
Tanya and Daniel kick-started June with an invitation from The Abbey Theatre to take part in their “Meet The (Documentary) Makers” series of talks. Coinciding with Stacey Greggs “Perve” running on the Peacock stage Tanya and Daniel spent the evening discussing the art of telling stories on screen to an enthusiastic crowd at The Abbey.
Marmalade was also at Sheffield Doc/Fest in June where we recharged the documentary batteries, saw a few beautiful films, attended some very interesting X-platform seminars and connected with sales agents and other great documentary people.

New Training Courses

As well as our ongoing training and support for our regular clients we’ve rounded out our busy last few months by delivering a new Shoot to Edit course at Filmbase. The course was designed by Tanya Doyle who has been delivering training in production and camera techniques with Daniel Hegarty taking over in the latter weeks of the course to guide participants through editing and post-production.
The press industry is starting to catch up with developments in DSLR filmmaking so Marmalade Training has designed a new 6 day intensive “Video for Stills and News Photographers” course. The course, developed in consultation with professional news, docuemntary and fine art photographers, covers camera and shooting techniques for video, location sound recording and editing. For more info on the course or to register your interest contact us on training[at]marmaladefilms.ie.
